For the magazine portion of the exam, I will be creating a food magazine. I will be adding components to the magazine to make it unique while also following the basic conventions of a food magazine.
1. Food Magazine
2. Genre Conventions:
- Main food dish on cover page
- Bright bold title colors to catch the readers attention
- Colors usually match the colors in the main photo
- 2 word title, compared to the title only being 1 word like Cosmopolitan
- A website to access recipes mentioned in the magazine
- Typically no actual people on the front cover
- Sometimes a few main headlines mentioned on the title
-Topics discussed in magazine is recipes, food reviews and interviews with chefs
-Barcode
-Headings
3. Production Techniques:
-Main dish or item filling up the front cover
-Title on the top of the dish in a bright bold color that goes with the theme of the magazine
-Colors of text goes with main photos
- Bold and change color of numbers on the cover to make the facts or hooks stand out and grab the readers attention
4. Target Audience
-Chefs
-People interested in how to improve their cooking
- Mothers looking for new recipes
-People who are very infatuated with cooking
5. Example 1
- In this magazine it well follows the conventions listed above. The orange and greens in the main dish compliment the colors of the orange and green fonts of what is expected to be in the magazine. The logo of the Food Network company is also orange to follow with the colors on the page. The title of this specific magazine, "Grill Everything" , is clear to read and big enough for this cover. The title is also 2 words which is how most food magazine titles tend to be. There is also a barcode at the bottom right corner which most magazines have also .
6 . Example 2
This example of this Food and Wine magazine also fit the conventions of the food magazine well. The bold red title of "Food & Wine" ,makes it clear to there audience that that is the name of the magazine. The bright red font color doesn't go exactly with the main dish pictured but it makes it clear to read. The use of the red bolded "17" also catches the readers attention and gets them to read whats inside . There is also a barcode in the bottom left corner. Lastly, there are no actual humans in the main cover photo which gives the reader the full understanding that this magazine will solely be about food .
7 . Six other Food Magazines:
.
8 . Representation
Food magazines represent many food enthusiasts and many chefs around the world. It is represented that the food in the in the magazine are bound to be good and well
