Double Page Spread Analysis

I will now be analyzing three different double page spreads of food magazines to see how they all have similar conventions and features and also to get examples on how I can design my double page spread .

1 . Italian Food Forever : Photo link
Image result for food magazine double page spread
- The colors of the red table and table cloth match the red bolded titles on wha food dish will be told how to be made .
- The photos in the back are what is being told what the recipe is .
- In black and bold it lists the ingredients of the recipe then in normal black font it explains how to make the dish .
- On the right side page the recipe information is put on a transparent white background so you can still see a portion of the photo .
- Both photos take up more than half of the pages showing that these will be the main focus of this double page spread .
- There is no big large clear title on the spread saying whaat the recipe is, the titles are in the same size font as the rest of the words on the page. The only thing making the name of the recipe pop out from the rest of the words is the red font color .
- The simple background makes the food in the photo clear to the reader and does not make the spread look like there is too much going on.

2. Good Food: Bakes and Cakes : Photo link

-Simplicity of the spread makes the point clear and the page is easy to read
- No color is added on the text side of the page which makes the spread look even more basic and simple
-Photo of the cake looks very appetizing and presented nicely to attract the readers to try making the cake or consider reading the recipe
-Good layout with the ingredients listed on the left side of the left page and then the steps on how to make the cake are listed on the right side of the left page.
- The plain background of the photo of the cake makes it very clear that the main focus of the page is on how to make this cake.
- The yellow frosting on the cake adds color to the spread and add a contrast to the blue and brown shades in the photo
-The font of the title is also very simple along with the rest of this page, especially since it is just black
- Overall, I am not really a fan of how basic this spread looks but I do think that the main photo being on one page is a good idea to really show off what the dish is.

3. Ok ! Magazine : Photo link
Image result for food magazine double page spread food magazines
- Multiple foods are mentioned throughout the double page spread which adds more information on a short amount of space.
- The photo of the cheesecake does not look very appetizing to me but the blue background in that specific photo adds contrast to the photo.
-  The photos of the cookies were taken well and look more appetizing to the audience since the chocolate looks melted and gooey.
- It lists the recipes on how to make both items in the light pink boxes on the left side of each  page.
-All the titles are written in a bright red bold font which makes them easy to read and stand out to the reader.
- On both recipes, the photo of the main dish takes up majority of the page and the writing is very small.
- Mentions name of chef to attract readers to read the recipes and find out more information.

Overall, throughout the double page spreads of food magazines I have analyzed, they do share most of the same basic features. Each page seems to focus on no more than 2 recipes which make the magazine easy to read. On each page also they tend to list the ingredients and make them stand out in some sort of way, before listing how specifically you're supposed to make it. Each magazine adds different twists and styles to make them different and not basic.

Table of Contents Analysis

I will be analyzing 3 different food magazine table of contents to see the common conventions and features between the magazines.

1. Food 52
    https://www.google.com/search?q=food+magazine+table+of+contents&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS862US862&sxsrf=ACYBGNRB5JFUhT-iv6KRx0IVMdhuviuEYg:1580141116239&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiooravlKTnAhXytlkKHcc7Af0Q_AUoAXoECAwQAw&biw=2560&bih=1334&dpr=0.75&safe=active&ssui=on#imgrc=OL4G2e1aw5ERrM:

-Elegant design and very basic but easy to read and still good looking .
-Photos go along with it being a food magazine and are both very good looking dishes .
- All page numbers are bigger than the text about the page and that is to draw attention to the audience to make it clear of the pages certain things will appear on .
- No clear order of the numbers surrounding the photo on the right side page .
-For the most part this Table of Contents spread is very basic and simple. There is not much that stands out to me in this spread besides its simple but elegant style.
- The colors of the food in the dish give the page color and makes the page look less bland .

2. Dessert Food Magazine
https://www.google.com/search?q=food+magazine+table+of+contents&rlz=1C5CHFA_enUS862US862&sxsrf=ACYBGNRB5JFUhT-iv6KRx0IVMdhuviuEYg:1580141116239&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiooravlKTnAhXytlkKHcc7Af0Q_AUoAXoECAwQAw&biw=2560&bih=1334&dpr=0.75&safe=active&ssui=on#imgrc=uX474Ep21twfNM:
Image result for food magazine table of contents

-This table of contents spread is very easy to read and understand.
- The colors of the photos go along with the color of the page number circles and table of contents title.
- Next to the page number it gives a small description of what will be shown on the pages.
- The photos on the side match the topic of the magazine .
- The pink bubbles around the page number is a good feature to add since it matches the theme of the magazine and also it makes the page numbers larger and bolder for the readers to read .
- All of the descriptions have famous chefs that will be talked about in them which can draw more attention to the readers because if they hear of someone they know and like on the page it gives a better chance of the reader continuing to read.

3.

Image result for table of contents of a food magazine
- All photos go along with the magazines overall theme .
- The page number color and page title color matches well with the pictures and go with the Thanksgiving theme of the magazine .
- All page numbers and page titles are easy to read, the page numbers are all underlined and the titles are written in yellow in a bigger font than the description written in black smaller font on the right side .
- On al the photos it also features the page numbers in the upper left corner that correlate with what page the photos will be featured on.
- In the right bottom corner there are more pages with what will b featured on them listed but, since the font is much smaller than the other page numbers and titles it could mean that those pages are not as important or interesting .

Throughout the three magazine table of contents I have analyzed, I've noticed that they all share similar features and conventions. In all of them, the magazines emphasize the page number in some sort of way. Also for the most part, the colors on the page go well with the tones in the pictures and the entire theme of the magazines. Also, the pictures on all the table of contents are all relating to the magazines theme and design . The fonts all also go well with the theme of the magazine and the pictures. Overall, the table of contents all share most of the same features but still have features that make them all unique in their own ways fitting the style of the magazine .

Cover Analysis

I will be analyzing the components and the conventions of 3 different food magazines. They all follow the same basic conventions with their own styles and features added.

1. Bon Appetit

- The orange details on the title match the mac and cheese in the main photo
- The cheese stringing from the fork is appetizing and looks good to eat to the reader to get them to read more about the mac and cheese.
-The subtitle, "Dig Into Comfort", previews to the reader that the entire magazine will be solely based on comfort foods, such as Mac and Cheese.
-The cover line saying, "Mac and Cheese Hands down the tastiest version we've made" also draws the reader into reading more of the magazine because it will then show you how to make the same mac and cheese that caught your attention on the cover.
-The other cover lines base off the the overall theme of the magazine which is comfort foods. It mentions how to make easy deserts and even a sandwich. This all goes with the magazines theme and adds some flow to the magazine as a whole since its based around the same broad topic, comfort foods.
- All of the cover lines are clear and easy to read since they are laid over a grey background. The blue bolded words on the cover lines do not specifically go with the overall theme of comfort food, but are added as features to add variety to the book and to draw in more people to buy and read it.
-The color choices are all warm toned colors such as oranges, reds, and some yellows. These colors are used since colors like reds and yellows are known to make people hungry and catch their attention to the food since the colors are very bright too.
- The close details all on the mac and cheese such as the baked cheese on the perimeter of the bowl and the baked cheese sprinkled on top also make the photo more appetizing to the reader. The mac and cheese does not look like any basic mac and cheese you would get cheaply, it looks as there was much effort put into that dish and that it would taste almost as good as it looks.
- The yellow tear drop features the page number you can look at to find the recipe on the Mac and Cheese. This feature is very effective, so the reader does not have to flip through every page of the magazine and so the information can be given to you straightforward.
-The blue bolded words on 2 of the cover lines, add contrast to the cover since all the colors are warm toned.

2.Southern Living

-The cover photo has warm colors which compliment the yellow detailing on some of the titles to match the overall color scheme of the photo.
- The title, "Slow Cooker" gives the reader insight into what this edition of the magazine will be about and matches goes along with the cover photo.
- All of the cover lines are based on the "Slow Cooker" theme also by mentioning "105 easy comfort foods"
-The cover photo is in focus on the meal displayed has more of a blurred background of the glasses of wine towards the top right corner.
-The cover photo is very well focused on the meal shown to show the audience everything that is in the meal.
- The yellow box around "What's for supper" adds a pop of color that matches the photo and makes the cover line easier to read. If there were to be just white font, it wouldn't pop out and catch the readers attention.
-Adding numbers to your cover adds specificity of what will be mentioned in the rest of the magazine and gives the audience a cleared idea.
-The warm color scheme matches the southern theme, since the magazine is by Southern Living.

3. America's Test Kitchen

- In the cover photo, the main dish is in the rule of thirds which is more eye catching to the audience rather than it being in the center of the page.
- The title of this magazine and the titles of the cover lines match the sauce on the left side of the magazine and also go with the warm color scheme of the main dish.
- All of the cover lines perfectly match the edition of the magazine, "Sunday Suppers".
- In the handle of the pot, it names the dish that is displayed on the cover photo.
- The blue background of the counter contrasts the warm color scheme of the meal shown on the cover.
- The placement of the title makes the whole page looking more full and is also in the rule of thirds, instead of being in the center and going over some of the components of the photo.
- All of the cover lines give two examples of dishes that will be shown under the categories of different types of dinners such as "Old-World Classics" , "Lazy Dinners" ' and " Dinners Around the World".
- In the cover photo, the color of the sauce and bread, towards the top of the page, go along with the color scheme of the main dish shown.
- In the main dish you can see clearly what the main dish is supposed to be and is close up and detailed of the pot.

Genre Research

For the magazine portion of the exam, I will be creating a food magazine. I will be adding components to the magazine to make it unique while also following the basic conventions of a food magazine.

1.  Food Magazine

2. Genre Conventions:
- Main food dish on cover page
- Bright bold title colors to catch the readers attention
- Colors usually match the colors in the main photo
- 2 word title, compared to the title only being 1 word like Cosmopolitan
- A website to access recipes mentioned in the magazine
- Typically no actual people on the front cover
- Sometimes a few main headlines mentioned on the title
-Topics discussed in magazine is recipes, food reviews and interviews with chefs
-Barcode
-Headings

3. Production Techniques:
-Main dish or item filling up the front cover
-Title on the top of the dish in a bright bold color that goes with the theme of the magazine
-Colors of text goes with main photos
- Bold and change color of numbers on the cover to make the facts or hooks stand out and grab the readers attention

4. Target Audience
-Chefs
-People interested in how to improve their cooking
- Mothers looking for new recipes
-People who are very infatuated with cooking

5. Example 1

- In this magazine it well follows the conventions listed above. The orange and greens in the main dish compliment the colors of the orange and green fonts of what is expected to be in the magazine. The logo of the Food Network company is also orange to follow with the colors on the page. The title of this specific magazine, "Grill Everything" , is clear to read and big enough for this cover. The title is also 2 words which is how most food magazine titles tend to be. There is also a barcode at the bottom right corner which most magazines have also .

6 . Example 2

This example of this Food and Wine magazine also fit the conventions of the food magazine well. The bold red title of "Food & Wine" ,makes it clear to there audience that that is the name of the magazine. The bright red font color doesn't go exactly with the main dish pictured but it makes it clear to read. The use of the red bolded "17" also catches the readers attention and gets them to read whats inside . There is also a barcode in the bottom left corner. Lastly, there are no actual humans in the main cover photo which gives the reader the full understanding that this magazine will solely be about food .

7 . Six other Food Magazines:

     .

8 . Representation
Food magazines represent many food enthusiasts and many chefs around the world. It is represented that the food in the in the magazine are bound to be good and well

Color

13 Reasons Why Season 3 Episode 2

This episode begins with dim cool tinted lighting shining on Clay giving it a suspenseful effect of what he could have been dreaming about and speaking to Justin. He seemed as he did not want to speak about his dream. Then it switches to a scene of Ani speaking to her mother with really cold lighting giving me the feeling of emptiness. The cool color when their speaking really makes me feel the emptiness in their conversations as if its cold and dry. You can feel just by the color that Ani does not have the best connection with her mother and is continuously lying to her. This is shown not only by the dark cool grey tones of the setting but also the colors of their clothing; Ani is wearing a very dark reddish long sleeve blouse and her mother is dressed in a dark purple with some sort of design. But these also show the dark and coldness as they dress in muted dark colors.

The scene switches to a close up shot of just Ani speaking but the screen is black and white. This effect is put on as she speaks to the investigators/police and as she continues to blatantly lie to the police. When she is explaining what she is speaking about, the scene switches to flash back to that time and the camera tones are still dark and cool. This is meaning there is a flashback happening and also they are dressed in very dark attire since they were flashing back to right around the time when Bryce died and his mother was dressed in all black.

Tyler and Clay are talking in the hallway and the lighting is still very dull. Light is only shined on Tyler and Clay as both of them speak. This also implies the cold and emptiness that was also shown in the beginning of this episode. The use of this "cold and emptiness" effect is to show how everyone in the school is effected by what is happening to the students there. Clay is still dressed in dark colors, wearing a black hoodie and Tyler is also dressed in a black jacket too. There are no posters in the hallways and they are just very bland and white looking which also implies to me that everything and everyone is feeling very empty.

As Tyler and Clay speak they are also framed in the rule of thirds. r then right back in and the time is completely different. The first time Tyler and Clay were speaking, it was right after Bryce had died, then it switches back to present and the colors of everything become more vibrant and less dull. There are now posters on the walls in the hall ways and Clay and Tyler are both not dressed in all black anymore.

Mis En Scene

Dexter Season 5 Episode 2

Setting:
This episode of Dexter began with Dexter swimming in a pool as he is speaking in a voice over on him grieving about his dead wife. Dexter is the only person in this scene which suggests to me that these are his thoughts he is sharing. He expresses how he expressed the first stage of grief by killing someone and his thoughts on the first stage of grief as he is floating in the pool all alone and the water had a pinkish tone to it and the sunlight kept flashing in and out in Dexter's point of view as he looked up. After Dexter finishes speaking he gets out of the water and laid down on the ground right next to the water as he is out of breath. This setting suggests that Dexter was swimming also to get his mind off of his wife dying. It also suggests that he does not enjoy sharing his feelings with people because of him swimming alone.

Staging:
The next scene starts as Dexter and the kids walk into their "new home". As Astor and Cody walk into the house their sluggish body language suggests that they are very upset and annoyed with the situation that they are in with their mother dying. Astor takes a few steps around to show that she is trying to "take a look" at their new home but still shows her anger by the look on her face when Dexter's sister says that that is their new home and she snaps back with an attitude and says that it is not. In this scene they all do not move much and this shows that the conversation they are in is intense. The intensity continues to build up until Astor breaks the conversation by turning her back and walking away angrily after Dexter tells her that it may not be a good idea to visit their actual house since their mom was killed there.

Costumes:
The following scene is taken place in the investigation room as Dexter has an investigation with the FBI due to the killing of his wife. He is dressed professionally for this occasion with a button down light blue shirt and a nice watch on. The camera then goes to a double shot of the investigators and they are both dressed formally and professionally showing that they have a very  professional job and that they are dressed for the occasion. The woman investigator is wearing a blazer with a nice white blouse and glasses and the male investigator was dressed in a suit and tie and this suggests that their jobs require a professional formal attire.

Lighting:
Throughout these 3 scenes the lighting changes in each scene. In the beginning scene of Dexter swimming in the pool, it would keep showing Dexter's point of view as he was floating on his back underwater looking up at the sun. The sunlight flashing in his eyes is like he is finally coming back to reality and seeing the light. Then during the next scene, there was not any dramatic lighting. The lighting in the house was on as they just got home and were starting to try and adjust to their new home. Then in the investigation room, the lighting was a bit more dramatic. The light would shine on Dexter as he gave his statement to the investigators. As the camera would be on the investigators, the color tone of the lighting was sort of grey-ish brown and this shows the cold tone coldness of the investigators.

Foley Sound Project

https://youtu.be/rkQ2J5k8Gm4

This sound project was a really fun and creative experience. As the project was introduced, I was not sure how this would be possible creating all these sounds and being able to tell such a story for the classmates to figure out. We quickly came up with an idea but we had trouble figuring out how we were going to create our main sound of the scene. The idea of sucking through a straw was brought up but it wasn’t the exact sound we needed. We then asked one of our friends that we saw in the hallway to help us out and he created the perfect sound with his mouth, for the scene. Sounds like footsteps and background chatter were really easy to record and, one of my favorite parts was the keys and heard footsteps, to give the idea of the dean walking into the bathroom. Just making the footsteps louder and adding keys really changed the effect and made you really be able to tell what was happening in the scene and what characters may have been involved. I think we did a good job at editing everything all together also by layering and fading out the sounds to make the scene sound the most realistic. The hardest sound to make was the handcuffs at the end and we were really stumped on how to make that sound perfect. We tried multiple techniques using the locks and lockers around our school and we finally got the idea to close two locks right after one another. This created a sound of possibly handcuffs that we were hoping for. Overall this project was a fun learning experience and I am better able to understand what foley sounds are and how sounds can be created artificially to make something sound like another.

Types of Camera Angels in a TV Show

Dexter Season 5 Episode 1
This episode begins with an eye level close up of a crying baby than quickly transitions to Dexter holding the baby and lights and sirens start going off in the background. It then transitions to an establishing shot of the crime scene he was at, which was sadly in his own home.Ths establishing shit was of 3 police cars and sirens going off to show where the TV show is taking place and so you are not confused on where the characters are located. After Dexter is in complete shock as of what happened he can barely hear the police officer that is talking to him. It switches back and fourth between Dexter and the officer as the shots of Dexter with the crying baby are at a tilted angel. This gives the illusion to the audience that Dexter is confused and does not know what is going on, along with the sound how he is hearing things was echoey too. The scene then changes to show the gruesome, bloody crime scene of Dexters bathroom in the house him and his wife Rita live in. This establishing shot shows many angles of the blood all over the floor, and on the side of the tub since the tub was overflowing in the bloody water that Dexters wife, Rita laid in. There was a slow zoomed in close up of Rita’s head as she was laying in this bloody water. This gave the effect of the terror that  was going through Dexters mind trying to figure out who killed Rita. Suddenly the camera flashes back to Dexter holding his son (the baby from the beginning) as the red and blue police lights continue to flash in his face as they sit outside but as he is sitting there the camera zooms into a close up of Dexter confused and in shock as the officer is trying to get Dexter to give him the baby but since Dexter is in such shock the sound is blurred and echoed as the officer spoke to make the audience understand how Dexter felt in that exact moment. Soon enough, Dexters sister Deborah comes to check out the scene since she is a police officer and works at Miami Metro. A shot of Deborah running to the scene then transitions to medium shot of Dexter sitting on the grass holding his son and Deborah trying to speak to Dexter. Dexter then hands the baby to Deborah as the camera is just over Dexters shoulder giving it the perfect over the shoulder shot. A close up of Dexter with just silence which caused anticipation and slowly started to zoom into his face. Dexter then breaks the “silence” of the police sirens still going off in the background and says “Rita’s inside. It was me.” The sirens and police lights continued to go off then a parallelism transition is used as the lights flash the last light that flashes isn’t a police light it is then a camera flash and then transitions the scene to the next morning of the photographer takes photos of Rita’s body in the bathtub. This was a great use of a transition to the next day at the scene with the flashing lights. As the photographer takes photos, Quinn and Masuka examine the scene and the camera goes over Masukas shoulder looking at the bathtub giving you the feeling that you are actually investigating this crime scene with Masuka and Quinn. This episode continues on the search of Dexter figuring out who killed his wife.

5 transition techniques

1. Simultaneous: 13 Reasons Why, Season 2 Episode 13
This scene starts off with Clay, Tony, and Justin, outside of their school going to the Winter Formal Dance, then it quickly transitions to a dark toned, suspenseful, quiet scene of Tyler walking over to an unknown, suspicious box that revealed to have guns in it. For the next about 4 minutes, scenes keep switching back and fourth between the dance with loud music playing and lots of color, then back to quiet Tyler organizing his guns. This builds up the tension that Tyler might do something bad since in previous episodes Tyler would have problems with other students and even getting sexually assaulted at school. This scene shows simultaneity because while the group of boys are having a fun time dancing at their school event, at the exact same time, Tyler is setting up this terrible, heinous, act of violence he is planning to do to the school. Simultaneity is when things happen at the exact same time. This can also show contract since it contrasts the tones of a lighthearted, fun time at the dance, and the dark tone of Tyler.

2, Contrast: 13 Reasons Why, Season 1 Episode 13
Throughout this entire episode of 13 Reasons Why, Contrast is displayed within the transitions of scenes. This scene switches between the past and the present with the past being before Hannah committed suicide and shows her the day before and the day of and then contrasts between what all the other students are doing in the present with listening to her tapes and continuing on with their everyday lives. This is not only displayed in this episode but in all the episodes of this season. It shows when Hannah was alive and you are able to tell that that is the past since the tone is more of a warmer tone and makes everything have more of an orange tint to it, then the present is displayed by a cooler tone on screen with everything looking more blue and pale and sad. This is to show the contrast between before Hannah's death and after Hannah's death. Contrast is to show 2 different sides of something and this perfectly displays contrast since it shows the way the students acted before they knew anything like this was happening to her and after when they realized they could do something about it.

3. Le Motif: iCarly Season 4 Episode 3
This episode of iCarly is when Spencer decides to pull pranks on Carly and Spencer, Carly, Sam and Freddie, all talk about the pranks that Spencer pulled back in highschool. When it shows him pull the prank it plays a song and shows Spencer dancing to the song meaning he successfully pulled the prank. This song is the le motif. Since it plays each time that Spencer preforms a prank it is constant throughout the show. Also a le motif of this show can be whenever Sam presses her "boo" button on her sound remote. She tends to click this sound when someone says something stupid or that she does not approve of.

4. Symbolism: 13 Reasons Why, Season 1 Episode 13
This episode begins with Hannah explaining all the people that were on her tapes and why they had a place in her tapes. As she is explaining why she chose each person she continues to paint numbers on tapes with a blue nail polish that she stole from her parents store. This blue nail polish she then begins to paint her nails with once she is done painting the numbers on each tape. This nail polish was used to represent her sadness since it was blue. The blue nail polish represents and symbolizes that she is sad since blue can be seen as a color of sadness. Then at the end of this episode, Hanna's momfinds the bottle of blue nailpolish on her desk after she already died. She sees the bottle and cries in hence that the blue nailpolish could have been seen as her sadness. The blue nailpolish symbolizes Hannah's sadness and depression throughout the show and that is why she uses it to paint the numbers on her tapes and her nails before she dies.

5. Parallelism Dexter season 5 episode 1
This episode of Dexter is the first episode of the season which opens with a new case. This new case happens to be one too close to home for Dexter. To it being his wife Rita was the one dead this time. The scene starts off with Dexter outside his house which was the crime scene and the police had arrived. The police go inside to then find his wife Rita dead in the bathtub. The camera then switches back to Dexter outside as he is in complete shock. As he is waiting outside with his baby, his sister Deborah shows up and then tries to calm him down. During all of this, police sirens and lights are continually going off. Deborah takes the baby from Dexter and he breaks the silence of the sirens and the flashing lights and goes “Rita’s dead. It was me.” As soon as Dexter says that 3 more red and blue flashing lights go off and then a big white flash happens and transitions to a closeup of Quinn examining the body in the bathtub and the photographer was right over his shoulder taking pictures of the crime scene. That would be an example of parallelism with the transitioning of the red and blue flashes to the big white flash. This is used to connect 2 events with either similar or not similar topics.

5 Master Editing Shots

1. Simultaneously

This shot shows simultaneism between both shots since the first shot is of Maddie and Mikayla doing on their phones and not doing any work, while at the exact same time Karly and Mason were both working hard to get a good grade on their tests.

2. Leit Motif:

This shot displays a Leit Motif shot because in each shot there is someone throwing a paper ball. We attempted to add music in the background of each shot but we really struggled with it and the video as a whole ended up being muted. But we still thought this shot may have still represented this type of edit since we were doing the same thing 3 times. We might have been able to think of something better for this shot.

3. Contrast:

This scene we displayed contrasting scenes. Maddie and I were jumping around and partying in the first scene and showing us having a good time. Then it cuts to me throwing up in the bathroom and Maddie holding my hair as I am throwing up. The third shot cuts back to us having a fun time partying and then the last one is me throwing up again and Maddie passed out on the bathroom floor. We thought this showed good contrast since it goes from us having a really good time and then later that night being sick from having too much fun.

4. Parallelism:

This shot portrays parallelism. Parallelism matches certain elements from each scene. In the first picture I was laying down on the couches in the main entrance of our school. Then it zoomed slowly into my arm and zoomed back out and I was on the couches of the middle school entrance. We thought this scene displayed parallelism because we matched both scenes together since I was laying down in both.

5. Symbolism

This shot of Maddie unlocking her locker and me and Mikayla telling a secret portrayed symbolism. Symbolism is using an object to represent something in the next scene. The lock was used as us unlocking secrets. I think this was a good way to show symbolism because it perfectly represents the situation. All secrets have been unlocked and that is what this scene shows.

Monday, September 9, 2019

4 shots from 2 different groups :

 Jake Ackerman’s Group:
1. Double: Shows Jake and Jason clearly shooting the paper ball.
2. Cut away: Shows Jake then right away making his shot into the trash creating competition between the boys.
3. Extreme Close up: Shows Jake very mad at the camera that’s Jason is trying to challenge him to a competition.
4. Over the shoulder: Shows Jason making the shot from a different point of view than the ones before. Adds variety.

Emily Morande’s Group:
1. Over the shoulder: Shows Ethan walking to his locker trying to open it as if someone was walking behind him.
2. Single / Close up: This is of Ethan once he opens his locker as if the camera was just sitting in the locker showing him gather his things from up close.
3. High Shot: Showing from above Ethan washing up after getting “murked”. This was a creative angle.
4. Extreme close up: Zooms in directly on his eye after getting beat up. Showing that he is hurt and intensifies the injury.
10 camera angels from my video :

1. Establishing Shot: This was to show that we were starting off the video in the weight room letting the audience know that we would be working out during this video. It established location for our video.

2. High Angle: This shot shows from above that Mikayla is tying her shoe. It give the viewers a clear view of her getting ready to work out.

3. Medium Close Up: This was of me telling Mikayla to tie her hair before we start working out. This shot was used so you could clearly see me then moving to Mikayla tying her hair

4. Wide Shot: We used this shot to clearly show the location where Sam was running since there was a location switch to the gym.

5. Medium Shot: This Shot was used to show me doing sit-ups. It showed my full body on what I was doing.

6. Full Shot: This Shot was used to show Sam’s full body on how to do lunges. If we weren’t to include her full body then you might not have been able to tell what she was doing.

7. Close Up: This Shot was used mainly to add humor to me doing “pushups”. If the shot wasn’t close up like this I would’ve just looked even more dumb from far away.

8.Single : We used this Shot to show just Mikayla doing “weights” with the Yeti.

9. Low Angle: This Shot was used to show the angle of Mikayla squatting. This makes the top of the frame seem taller than normal

10. Medium Full: This shot showed Sam doing a wall sit. It clearly showed her whole body and her sitting into the wall sit. If her whole body wasn’t clear ,you may not be able to tell what she is doing.
